Tune in Monday 10pm GMT for American Jukebox!

Join me in two hours for the best in rock, roots, blues and country from the USA! Tonight we’ll salute the passing of two great soul artists, Bobby Womack and Mabon “Teenie” Hodges, and celebrate the 60th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s first concert in Memphis. Listen live at Oban FM 10pm GMT, 5pm EST.

American Jukebox Playlist 23/6/14

This week we welcomed summer with a feel-good set of sizzling hot tunes for the season. And we paid homage to “X” radio- those Mexican “Border Blasters” that paved the way for a cultural sea change in America, complete with a tribute to Wolfman Jack.

Next Monday, tune in live at 10pm GMT on Oban FM as I celebrate the 60th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s first concert- and tell how he “invented” his signature leg shake. Plus a tribute to the Muscle Shoals sound with Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Wilson Pickett and more!

American Jukebox Playlist- with a Paris Flair

Hello Cats and Jammers! I am back from France and have lots of fab adventures to share once I get unpacked and go through my email inbox- ugh, the worst part of holidays to be sure. (Well, except for sea sickness- handy travel tip: those sea bands accupressure wrist cuffs work fine on calm water, but during a boat-tossing-stomach churning storm, not so much.)

But I hit the ground running with American Jukebox on Monday night. And in celebration of my trip to Paris, I threw in some Sidney Bechet and Josephine Baker, both hugely talented jazz artists of the 1920’s who left a segregated Jim Crow America to settle in Paris, where they found an adoring fan base and the respect they could never find in their home country.

Thanks to everyone who tuned in and requested songs this week! You can catch American Jukebox each Monday from 10 pm to midnight GMT (that’s 4pm to 6pm CST) live on the internet at Oban FM. Feel free to request a song and I’ll dedicate it to you or a loved one live on air. Au revoir mes amours!
